Sirocco Finishing Class

Sirocco Finishing Class Prep Work
Please review the pattern instructions ahead of time and note any areas that are not clear. We will cover them in class to make sure you’re all set to complete your top when the blocks are all done. Please call the shop if you have any questions.
Sirocco 2025 BOM Finishing Class Prep
Before coming to class, please prepare the following on the page titled SIROCCO BOM that has
the diagram on the back. You do not need to cut anything for class on the 3rd page also titled
SIROCCO BOM, but has nothing but yardage on the back. That is where you cut borders, and we
will not do borders in class. The border corner units will be made during class while making the
units needed for the setting blocks.
You will need to purchase the Technique Sheet for the Shaded Four Patch, as well as the
Tucker Trimmer I prior to class. Amy has them in stock.
1. Light (background) fabric cutting:
a. Cut the four 12 ½” strips and subcut the 60 12 ½ “ x 2 ½” rectangles. Use any
remaining fabric in your strips to cut some of the 9 ½ “ x 3 ½” rectangles.
b. If needed, still cut two 9 ½” strips in order to finish cutting the 24 9 ½” x 3 ½”
rectangles. Use any remaining fabric from these strips to cut some 6 ½” x 3 ½”
rectangles. You should be able to get 12 rectangles from each WOF strip, so you can
calculate how many 6 ½” strips to cut next.
c. Cut the number of 6 ½” strips needed to finish cutting the 48 6 ½” x 3 ½” rectangles.
Subcut remaining fabric into 3 ½” squares.
d. Cut enough 3 ½” strips to finish subcutting 48 3 ½” squares.
DO NOT CUT the ten 2 3/8” strips in the pattern instructions!!!!
INSTEAD, cut twelve 3 ¼” strips. DO NOT SUBCUT THEM. Use your OOPS kit if needed to cut
the full 12 strips. It will not matter if any strip is in 2 pieces. Cutting is really tight, so If you
can’t get all 12 strips cut, you will need to purchase another one-fourth to one-third yard of
fabric.
Cutting for other colors:
2. Cut the DkBr as indicated in the pattern (25 2 ½” squares). These will be used for
sashing cornerstones.
3. MO cutting:
a. DO NOT CUT the 2- 2” strips in the MO Section of the pattern. You will not need
them.
b. DO CUT the 48 2 ½” squares as directed in the pattern.
c. Also cut two strips 2 ¼” x WOF. DO NOT SUBCUT
d. In addition, cut two strips 4” wide. Subcut them into twelve 4” x 5” rectangles.
4. LG, DG, LB, DB, MDB, and MG cutting (MO is cut above): Be careful, you will use 12 ½”
of the 13 ½” you have of some colors.
a. From each of the above colors DO NOT CUT as in the pattern instructions. Instead,
cut two 2 ¼” strips – DO NOT SUBCUT.
b. Also cut two 4” strips and subcut them into twelve 4” x 5” rectangles.
c. For MDB and MG – cut two additional 4” x 5” rectangles, for a total of 14. These will
be used in the border corner units.
5. Save remaining MG and MO for borders.
Other supplies needed (besides Tucker Trimmer and Technique Sheet):
1. Additional ruler that has a 45-degree line that is a minimum 6 ½” square, or can be
rectangular. Rectangle ruler doesn’t need to be very long. 10-12” maximum.
2. Your favorite marking tool that will show well on the light fabric, and hopefully a little bit
on the colors. It is most important to show on the light.
3. Your rotary cutter and small cutting mat. We have large mats at the shop that can be
used as needed.
4. Sewing machine, foot control, and power cord.
5. Thread, pins, extra sewing machine needles, and all the regular sewing notions you like
to travel with.
6. It is okay to bring your own small iron and mat to use at your station. We will be doing
some strip piecing, so it may be easier to press those on the bigger ironing stations. We
will have multiple bigger stations.
